Our Interpreter Services

American Sign Language

ASL services are widely video interpretations, where sign language interpreters work remotely with live video and audio feeds to view the deaf party and converse with them. However for those with limited access to a computer and stable Internet connection, telephone interpreting services can be used for situations in which no on-site interpreters are available.

On-Site

Using consecutive interpreting—a process in which the interpreter translates what the speaker has said after the speaker stopped speaking—on-site interpreters use notes to keep track of the important information being conveyed that he or she will have to later translate.

Understanding Interpreter Fatigue & Why you need multiple Interpreters

Interpreter Fatigue is the concept that after a certain point of time (roughly 30 minutes) an interpreter’s capabilities begin to degrade (MOSER-MERCER, KÜNZLI, & KORAC, 1998).  To combat this an alternative interpreter should be brought in to maintain high quality interpretation services.  In this study, it found that although an interpreter’s capabilities are diminished after a period of time, he or she will often continue interpreting but will begin to leave out information to keep their pace up.  This phenomenon was recorded in highly experienced interpreters ranging from 12 and 25 years of professional experience in their field.  We always recommend using our Interpreters in shifts to provide you with the highest quality interpretations.

Why you need Interpreter Services

Interpreter Services: The Same Message in Your Target Language

Communication is a huge part of our daily lives. In business, government, and other fields, delivering the right message is essential to transmitting the right information, passing on orders, and, when necessary, resolving conflicts.

As you move into a global setting, you’ll inevitably interact with a wide variety of people and cultures; you’ll need language experts to bridge the language gaps.

Effective interpreting conveys a message to another language and culture without changing its meaning. That may sound easy, but in practice interpretation is nerve-wracking; interpreters need speed and accuracy at the same time.

To do this, the interpreter must have:

  • Familiarity with the culture of the language involved
  • Fluent usage of the target language
  • Broad vocabulary in both languages
  • Knowledge of the subject of interpretation
  • Note-taking skills
  • Ability to comprehend quickly

It is important that the interpreter study of the subject to be interpreted. This strongly influences how well the interpretation will go. A well-informed interpreter can perform within the context necessary and will deliver accurate and culturally sensitive messages.

Our interpreters at Focus Interpreting possess many years of experience, making them highly-skilled and efficient. And we offer these services at competitive rates to help you minimize costs.

Interpretation Services: Simultaneous and Consecutive

When you’re looking for interpreters, you need to be clear on what type of service you need. Technically speaking, the difference between Interpretation and Translation is just a matter of medium. Interpreting involves spoken language while translation involves written text.

For oral interpreters, there are two types: simultaneous and consecutive.

  • Simultaneous Interpreting – Simultaneous interpreting is when a person sits in a booth wearing headphones and interprets in real-time. The interpreter speaks into a microphone, relaying the message in the target language for the people who need it. This is the kind of interpreting used in conferences and high-level meetings.
  • Consecutive Interpreting – In consecutive interpreting, the interpreter converts a speech or message during a pause in the speech or message being translated. This requires expert note-taking skills to ensure that the interpreter does not miss a point and communicates the message correctly in the desired language.

Focus Interpreting has a roster of experts for both types of interpreting. Our simultaneous interpreters have minimum 2 – 3 years of booth experience, making them competent and efficient for conferences and other events. Our consecutive interpreters are likewise skilled and can work well in high-pressure situations, making transitions fluid for all of your clients.
